Currently Clarington is reviewing and updating its zoning by-laws. These by-laws determine what property owners can and cannot do on their property - even down to the level of whether or not you can put up a storage shed or a deck. There are potentially serious impacts for everyone, but especially our agricultural community, which is so important to our local economy.
Currently 27% of rural land is environmentally protected. The proposed addition of an additional 29,500 acres of rural property means that if the rezoning goes ahead as proposed, 49% of the rural lands in Clarington will be considered environmentally protected lands.
The whole of Clarington encompasses 151,000 acres. Rezoning will affect both rural and urban areas. Maps are only available online for rural Clarington at this time.
If enacted these changes may impact your property value, your land use, and your future.
